The Transgenic
Research Center was just recently established
at NIBS. The Center will provide a variety of services,
including pronuclear microinjection for the generation of
standard transgenic mice, gene targeting in embryonic stem
cells, expansion and preparation of targeted ES Cell clones
for injection, blastocyst injections for the production
of chimeric mice, pathogen-free rederivation services, and
consultation services for the design and analysis of transgenes
and knockouts. Meanwhile, the Center has multiple ongoing
research projects aimed at developing new techniques for
making gene targeting-based animal models. Over the long
term, the Center will provide investigators with a mammalian
model to study important pathways involved in human disease.
